Bexar County election officials are investigating three reports of ballot errors that surfaced during the current early voting period. The complaints allege that voting machines altered candidate selections, leading to a review of the county's touchscreen equipment.

Emily French, policy director for Common Cause Texas, told reporters in a call that the machines are not switching ballots through programming. She described the voting hardware as feeling more like a Palm Pilot than an iPhone, suggesting that finger placement on the sensitive screen caused the discrepancies rather than a systemic change in the code.

Local news outlet KSAT reported on the three incidents last week. All three voters stated that their selections shifted from Democratic candidates to Republican candidates. The reported errors occurred at the Converse Community Events Center, the Wonderland of the Americas, and Macedonia Baptist Church.

Michele Carew, the Bexar County Elections Administrator, released a statement on Friday confirming the county is addressing the complaints. She said the office is communicating with the machine manufacturer to determine if specific actions are required. Carew noted that the equipment remains secure and advised voters to alert poll workers immediately if a printed ballot does not match their intended choices.

These reports arrive as national political groups prepare for potential challenges to the upcoming midterm election results. Michael Sozan, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, said the Trump administration is working to sow confusion about election integrity. He argued that current disputes are part of a strategy to enable later challenges to valid results.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke to reporters in San Antonio on Sunday regarding the readiness of the Democratic Party. He stated that Democrats have organized the largest voter protection effort in the history of a midterm election. Jeffries emphasized that the goal is to ensure the American public decides the makeup of the next Congress on November 3.

Early voting in Bexar County continues through October 30. Polls will reopen for the final day of voting on November 3. Residents can verify their registration status and find polling location details on the Bexar County Elections Department website.

Voters who feel their right to vote is being infringed upon can call 866-OUR-VOTE to report issues and seek legal advice. The county’s review of the touchscreen units aims to clarify whether the reported changes were hardware-related or indicative of a deeper equipment failure.
