The competition for user attention in the artificial intelligence sector has intensified, with a new entrant challenging established players to define the future of digital labor. Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, a specialized agent designed to navigate the crowded market of productivity tools by focusing squarely on professional workflows rather than casual personal assistance. This strategic pivot places the app in direct competition with a diverse field of rivals, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, as the industry moves beyond simple chat interfaces toward autonomous task execution.

The technical foundation of Claude Duet is built upon the Claude Opus 5.5 model, providing a robust engine for complex operations. To maximize utility for its target audience, the agent integrates with more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive connectivity allows the system to interact with a wide array of third-party services, enabling it to function as a central hub for business operations. Additionally, the agent is equipped with the capability to execute online purchases on behalf of users through established payment systems like Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay.

Anthropic has drawn a clear line between Claude Duet and personal agents such as Instinct, emphasizing that the new tool is not designed for handling everyday errands or booking travel tickets. A notable distinction is that Duet does not display its browser activity in real-time to the user. Instead, the agent operates by constructing daily briefings, generating custom dashboards, and suggesting specific actions based on an analysis of user data. This approach prioritizes high-level strategic support over granular, step-by-step task tracking visible to the user.

The operational model of the agent relies on background processing to minimize user interruption. Duet executes tasks within its own virtual machine, allowing professionals to continue with their primary work while the agent manages secondary obligations. The system is programmed to proactively monitor ongoing tasks and deliver recommendations as it progresses. However, it will pause and return to the user for approval when necessary, ensuring that human oversight remains central to the workflow. This balance between autonomy and control is a key feature of the launch.

Security and privacy are central to the agent's design, particularly given its access to professional data. Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scrutinizes every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is configured to decline requests for highly personal details, such as credit card numbers or government-issued identification. While the system can facilitate payments, it has strict limitations on financial actions; it will not trade securities or transfer funds between bank accounts, and all sensitive payment steps require explicit user approval.

The availability of Claude Duet is currently limited to a research preview phase. The application is accessible on iOS and Android devices, as well as through the web interface on Claude.ai. Access is restricted to Pro and Max customers who have joined the waitlist. This staged rollout allows Anthropic to refine the agent's performance in real-world business environments before a broader public release, positioning it as a serious contender in the evolving landscape of AI-driven business automation.
