Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show, marking his first appearance as the featured artist at the event. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the booking on Monday night. The performance is scheduled for February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The release included a video showing the rapper seated in the stadium among goats, with the caption "GOAT's out of the bag."

The decision resolves a seven-year dynamic between the artist and the league. Since 2019, Roc Nation has partnered with the NFL to advise on and produce the halftime presentation. Jay-Z previously told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." That stance has shifted, with the rapper now stepping from behind the scenes to the main stage.

The timing aligns with the conclusion of his "Jay-Z 30" concert tour. The tour began with three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, moved to London, and ended in Southern California over the weekend. He is set to return to the same stadium where those final shows took place.

Born Shawn Carter, the artist holds 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations, the second-highest total in history behind his wife, Beyoncé. His discography includes "Reasonable Doubt," "The Blueprint," and "The Black Album." Notable singles include "99 Problems" and "Empire State of Mind," a collaboration with Alicia Keys. His 1996 debut album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame last year.

Beyond music, Carter has built a career in publishing, management, and sports. He co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and established Roc Nation in 2008. The company now works with various artists and athletes. He became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.

Recent data illustrates the commercial power of Super Bowl halftime performances. Following a previous event, the featured artist held the top six spots on Spotify's Top 50 U.S. chart the next morning. Eleven other songs from that artist ranked within the same list at the time. Streaming charts and discovery platforms recorded sharp gains in the hours immediately after the show.
