119. That is the number of wins Mike Boynton compiled during his seven seasons as head coach at Oklahoma State. The record includes one appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Boynton was dismissed by the Cowboys after they finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 12-20 mark.

The former Oklahoma State coach is now the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. The university signed him to a two-year contract. He replaces Dusty May, who won the national championship with Michigan before accepting a job with the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA.

Michigan named Boynton interim head coach following the title win. The school then finalized his hiring. Boynton spent the last two years on May’s staff as an assistant coach. He credits that period with improving his understanding of team management.

Boynton told reporters at Big Ten media days that the two years felt like a sabbatical. He said he sat next to May every day. He learned how to run a high-functioning corporation and identify specific qualities in players. He also learned how to delegate responsibilities and show up consistently.

The change in leadership at Michigan marked the largest move in the college basketball coaching carousel. Several other programs made notable changes to their staffs during the offseason. These shifts included hires and firings across the country.

Casey Alexander took over at Kansas State after the firing of Jerome Tang. Tang went 26-10 in his first year at the school. He then posted a 45-47 record over the next three seasons. Alexander holds a 303-180 career record. He coached at Stetson, Lipscomb, and Belmont.

Will Wade returned to LSU for a second stint. The school had fired him in 2022 after the NCAA cited him for recruiting violations. Matt McMahon replaced Wade but was let go after a 60-70 record in four years. Wade had gone 105-51 in his first tenure at LSU.

North Carolina hired Michael Malone, a former NBA coach with no prior college head coaching experience. Malone went 510-394 in the NBA from 2013 to 2025. He won a title with the Denver Nuggets in 2023. He replaces Hubert Davis, who went 125-54 in five years.

Syracuse hired Gerry McNamara, who owns the school records for 3-point baskets and minutes played. McNamara led Siena to a 23-12 record and an NCAA bid last season. He replaces Adrian Autry, who was fired after going 49-48 in three years.

On the women’s side, Pauline Love returned to Alabama as head coach. She had served as an assistant there in the 2024-25 season. Tammi Reiss joined the program after going 138-73 at Rhode Island. Ayla Guzzardo took the job at Georgia after leading McNeese to 29 wins. Carla Berube moved to Northwestern after six years at Princeton.
