With the new school year under way, the Fort Worth area has a lineup of events for families and adults alike over the coming week, from a free beer tasting to a stadium-sized Nerf tournament.

On Wednesday, Aug. 9, Ensemble Coworking, at 1617 Park Place Ave., Suite 110, marks National Coworking Day with a Lunch & Brew: Blind Beer Tasting at noon. The event lets attendees try out a coworking space at no charge, meet other adults and sample complimentary beer. Guests are asked to bring their own lunch.

Thursday, Aug. 10, offers a trivia night for those who aced pop quizzes in school. Geeks Who Drink hosts Trivia at The Hop every Thursday at HopFusion, 200 E. Broadway Ave. Play begins at 8 p.m., teams can have up to six people, and solo visitors can join a team on site. Beer specials and prizes are part of the evening, and admission is free.

Younger players can turn to Friday, Aug. 11, when Jared's Epic Blaster Battle runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The event, open to kids young and old, invites participants to show off their Nerf gun skills. It is the eighth battle hosted by Rockwall native and social media influencer Jared Guynes, and it has expanded to markets across the country. Tickets start at $20 per person through Eventbrite.com.

Also this weekend, Texas holds its Tax-Free Weekend, during which the state comptroller's office exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales tax. While the office encourages shoppers to support Texas businesses generally, the Weekly suggests buying from local, family-owned retailers such as Cartan's Shoes, at 1201 W. Magnolia Ave., which is open Friday through Sunday. Details are available at Comptroller.Texas.gov by searching for "Sales Tax Holiday."

Homeowners planning refreshes for children's rooms, home offices or other spaces can visit the third annual Fort Worth Fall Home & Garden Show at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, 3401 W. Lancaster Ave. Hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and more information is at FortWorthHomeShow.com.

On Monday, Aug. 14, North Texas artist Patricia Rodriguez of TigerBee Arts can be seen in a show called Homegrown at the Kessler Theater, 1230 W. Davis St. in Dallas. The exhibit runs through Tuesday, is free and is suitable for all ages. Her contemporary work can also be viewed at Facebook.com/TigerBeeArts.

Finally, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, teachers can sign up to adopt a cow as a classroom mascot at no cost through DiscoveryDairy.com/Adopt-a-Cow. Enrollment closes Friday, Sept. 15. The first 30,000 people to register will receive a portal link in October to connect with a host farmer through an online message board. By November, they will also get a photo of their calf and an official adoption certificate by mail.
